Internacional won the international design award with the innovative project 'Tokyo', a multifunctional bank that combines functionality, sustainability and innovation. The project was developed by designer João Teixeira, lecturer in Product Design at ESTG-IPVC and former student of the institution. The multifunctional bank Tokyo was inspired by the Japanese habit of 'removing shoes before entering the house, seeking to respond to behaviors increasingly present in contemporary lifestyles.' The project presents a formal language marked by 'balanced asymmetry' and 'harmonious integration between aesthetics and functionality.' Sustainability concerns were also present throughout the development process, using 'birch plywood with FSC certification, veneered with natural oak wood and fabric produced from 100% recycled polyester.' The product, adds João Teixeira, was designed and conceived to be easily transported and assembled, allowing for reduced packaging volume, easier component replacement and extended product life cycle. 'It's always prestigious to see professionals in the field evaluate and analyze the projects we develop. It's very gratifying to see that the effort invested in the work is recognized and valued through an international distinction of this magnitude,' says João Teixeira, lecturer in Product Design at ESTG-IPVC.
